AIADMK coordinator O. Panneerselvam has called for action to bring petroleum products under the Goods and services Tax. "Whatever the issue is, such as state autonomy, cancellation of NEET elections, river issue with neighbouring states, a speech when not in power, a speech when in power is the art of the DMK.

In that regard, the government of tamil Nadu has stated its position on bringing petroleum products, goods and services under tax. When tamil Nadu chief minister MK stalin was the leader of the Opposition, he insisted that if petrol and diesel prices were to be reduced, they should be brought under the purview of the Goods and services Tax or the corresponding tariffs should be reduced. This news was published in all the newspapers on 25-01-2018.

Following this, on his social media page on 04-04-2018, the then leader of the Opposition and current prime minister MK stalin urged the Central and State Governments to bring petroleum products, goods and services under the tax ceiling to reduce the burden on the public. In short, the DMK's position before the tamil Nadu assembly elections was to bring petroleum products, goods and services under the tax threshold.

This situation has changed since the DMK came to power. At a meeting of the 45th Council for Goods and services Tax in lucknow yesterday, a resolution seeking to bring petrol and diesel within the ambit of the Goods and services Tax as per the kerala High court order was considered and rejected by various states.

At this meeting, DMK on behalf of the Finance minister attended whether the Federal Finance minister, in his letter, 'states' revenues in managing petrol and diesel, the state tax is currently only that, this GST cap if the states own tax revenue that will not be so similar I do not want to lose small powers. ' That is, it has been reported that the government of tamil Nadu opposes the importation of petroleum products under the Goods and services Tax. This is the DMK's post-election stance.

As a result, when the chief minister, as the leader of the Opposition, insisted that petroleum products be brought under the purview of the Goods and services Tax, there was scepticism in the minds of the people that he was trying to hold on to power somehow. Therefore, I urge the chief minister to immediately intervene and take steps to bring petroleum products under the Goods and services Tax to reduce the burden on the public and to maintain the DMK's pre-election position.

Such a move would reduce the burden on the public and fully fulfil the DMK's promise to reduce petrol prices by 5 rupees a litre and diesel by 3 rupees a litre. " Thus, the OPS said.
