A mass gathering of people can result in an increase in Covid-19 occurrences, and the health of the children can not be jeopardised, universally. Those engaging in the door-to-door effort, according to Mr Ponnambalam, will have to rigorously follow the Covid-19 protocol to avoid further spread of the pandemic.

In this context, the siliguri Municipal Corporation launched a three-day pulse polio campaign today. Under the sub-national enhanced pulse polio immunisation programme, the health experts have set a target of vaccinating 46,000 children under the age of five. The target or campaign is the need of the hour as it involves the lives of children.

The health staff are instructed to visit homes in the municipality regions and provide the oral polio vaccine to youngsters, during the campaign. polio vaccines will be transmitted out during house-to-house visits as well as at transportation hubs. The goal is to vaccinate about 46000 children under the age of five in the area locality.According to darjeeling District Magistrate S Ponnambalam, health professionals will give the kids two drops of bivalent oral polio vaccination (OPV). During the Covid-19 crisis, however, there was no immunisation camps or clinics and this immunization drive will be more helpful.

In India, children are given two drops of oral polio vaccination six times in their lifetime: at birth, at six weeks, at ten weeks, and at fourteen weeks, with the booster dose administered between 16 and 24 months and by the age of five years.
