The termination of the Amma Restaurant project in the name of an artist's restaurant has been criticized by AIADMK co-ordinator O. Panneerselvam. Amma Restaurants, he added in a statement, was established in 2013 in Corporation-controlled areas to serve low-wage earners and commuters in Chennai. It was later spread to other districts, and there are now 700 Amma eateries in tamil Nadu. Food was offered at very affordable prices, and in times of disaster, it was provided for free.

Against this backdrop, tamil Nadu's Food minister stated at a Model Community Kitchen Project consultative meeting in delhi that 500 artist eateries will be established in the state. It's politically heated, and it hides the mother restaurant's name. This is something I strongly oppose and I wish the names are again replaced back to Amma Unavagam itself.

The AIADMK is unconcerned with the DMK administration appointing artists to new projects. However, implementing an established idea under two names is strange. As a result, the chief minister should intervene and take steps to get the newly opened Amma Restaurants up and running. According to the report this has been submitted to the cm Cell for reconsideration.
