Finance minister PDR Palanivel Thiagarajan has announced that an advisory committee has been set up to prevent floods in chennai and Rs 500 crore will be allocated for the first phase of the flood relief works this year. 

He also announced that equipment for meteorological centers would be upgraded to accurately predict disasters and that a separate allocation of Rs 10 crore would be made for this purpose.

He also said that Rs 50 crore would be allocated as special funds for the protection and maintenance of state lands.
