The introduction of social media in recent years may have aided in the faster and wider dissemination of knowledge to people all over the world. However, it has virtually removed the borders of decency and dignity in politics, particularly in India. Prior to the advent of social media, political leaders relied on the mainstream media – both print and electronic – to criticise their political opponents. Because they were speaking directly to the media, the leaders had to restrain themselves from using harsh rhetoric towards their opponents.

The criticism was limited to political matters, and even when strong terms were used, they stayed within the bounds of the law, albeit they did occasionally use unparliamentary language. However, since the advent of social media, politicians have been exceeding all boundaries, indulging in filthy slurs and obscene comments, and even bringing women and other members of their opponents' families into their ugly banter. The ongoing verbal battle between Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, a former telugu desam party minister, and Ambati Rambabu, a current ysr congress party minister, has blurred all lines of civility.

They freely abuse each other in the filthiest terms, causing the people to be disgusted. Ayyanna referred to Ambati as "Kambabu," stating that he solicited alleged sexual favours from a female YouTube channel anchor, and that the minister's days are limited because the evidence has reached chief minister Y S jagan Mohan reddy and other authorities involved. "Kambabu Boothu Puranam," he called it. Ambati retorted angrily, calling Ayyanna Chintakayala Somberi and Battathala Baduddhayi. He also dragged tdp president N Chandrababu Naidu's son nara lokesh into the fray, claiming that Ayyanna had set up beds for "Chinna Babu" who was relaxing in swimming pools.
