As a precaution to stop protests over the Central government's Agnipath military recruiting scheme, railway authorities shut down the Visakhapatnam railway station on saturday and increased security at all other important stations in Andhra Pradesh. Authorities closed the station and stopped the trains at 7 a.m. as a result of intelligence warnings that army hopefuls planned large-scale protests. The station will remain closed until midday, according to officials.

After careful inspection, passengers were allowed to enter the station until 7 a.m. The station would stay permanently shuttered, the officials announced later. At the nearby Duvvada railway station, all Vijayawada-bound trains were being stopped or diverted. At Kothavalasa, trains from Howrah were halted or diverted. Following indications that young people hoping to enlist in the army are organising a sizable demonstration, a high alert was sounded at the guntur railway station. Authorities tightened security and started only admitting visitors into the building after verifying their tickets.

Police in Kothapet detained at least 20 youngsters who were going to the guntur station. The warning was issued in light of information that whatsapp messages regarding the planned protest at guntur station were being shared. As a precaution following Friday's violent protests at the secunderabad railway station, security was also increased at Vijayawada, Kurnool, Tirupati, and other significant railway stations in Andhra Pradesh. Numerous youths went on a rampage, torching trains, commodities, and the station as large-scale violence erupted at secunderabad station.
