Experts say that instead of accepting his responsibility, Wickremesinghe wants to lower people's expectations, so as not to question his failure to solve the problems.

Sri Lankan prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's statement has raised fears in the country that the situation in sri lanka is more dire than the world has generally been aware of. On Wednesday, he had said that the problem in sri lanka is not just that there is a lack of essentials. Rather, the reality is that the country's economy has completely collapsed.

According to analysts, Wickremesinghe made this statement in the country's parliament probably to answer his critics. But it has a negative message. Opposition parties have strongly criticized it. Experts say that instead of accepting his responsibility, Wickremesinghe wants to lower people's expectations, so as not to question his failure to solve the problems.Situation out of the hands of Wickremesinghe government

Opposition parties have recently intensified attacks on the Wickremesinghe government. This week the two main opposition parties have been boycotting the proceedings of Parliament. They allege that almost a quarter of a month has passed since the Wickremesinghe government came to power, but it has failed to improve the situation at all. Now Wickremesinghe has said that he inherited a collapsed economy, so he should not be expected to improve immediately.

Meanwhile, the bad effect of the economic crisis is now visible on the middle class as well. The news of the poor sections being victims of starvation was already coming. Now the flame has reached the middle class. Bhavani Fonseca, senior researcher at the Colombo-based think-tank Center for Policy Alternatives, said in a conversation with the british newspaper The Guardian- 'The middle class has been hit like never before in the last three decades.'

According to experts, 15 to 20 percent of Sri Lanka's 20 million population is believed to be included in the middle class. Till recently, the life of this section was living comfortably. But now he has to worry about how to arrange food three times a day. Fonseca said- 'If the middle class has to struggle like this, then it can be imagined how bad the condition of the weaker sections will be.'

Food inflation rate at 57 percent

According to government data, the rate of inflation in food articles in the country has reached 57 percent. There is a shortage of essential things in the country. Especially due to the shortage of petroleum, the whole economy is in disarray. In view of this, now the government has decided that government offices will remain closed on Fridays every week.

There is also a shortage of medicines in the country due to the foreign exchange crisis. The World bank has promised $300-400 million in aid to sri lanka to buy medicines. On the other hand, it has got a loan of four billion dollars from India. But sri lanka has got only minor relief from this. It has a debt obligation of five billion dollars every year by 2026.
