Here the bridge over the Padma river has been opened to the people today. This bridge is the longest bridge in bangladesh, which will reduce the distance between the country's capital Dhaka and Mongla Port. According to reports, this will give a boost to bangladesh in regional and international trade.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated this bridge amidst tremendous enthusiasm on Saturday. During this, people also raised slogans of 'Our money, our bridge, our pride - Padma Bridge'.
The bangladesh government told the news agency on this occasion that it is like a dream come true for the people of Bangladesh. The economy of bangladesh is expected to get a boost through this bridge. The government estimates that the bridge will increase GDP by 1.23 percent and the Southwest Region by 2.3 percent.

Bangladesh's Prime Minister's office said this bridge was to be built with the help of the World Bank. However, after Sheikh Hasina came to power in 2009, the World bank canceled $12 billion in funding after allegations of corruption. After this, the Sheikh Hasina government decided to complete this bridge on its own and set an example in front of everyone by constructing the Padma bridge.
The government said that the Padma Bridge is the pride of the country which connects the rest of the country besides the South-West region. The Prime Minister's office said this bridge has connected 21 districts of the country.



It is ranked 122nd in the world in terms of bridge length. The main bridge is 6.15 km long. The construction of the 6.15 km long bridge started in 2015 and was completed in december 2021.
