A month after hyderabad police detained fiery bharatiya janata party MLA t raja singh under the Preventive Detention Act for allegedly hurling obscene remarks about the Prophet Mohammad, the bjp has begun making attempts to have him released on bail. Due to pressure from the party cadres and Hindu organisations, the party leaders, who at first remained mute on orders from the party national leadership, have suddenly begun speaking out in support of raja Singh.

Despite the MLA's failure to answer to the show-cause letter even after a month, the delhi authorities, who suspended him from the party shortly after his detention, have not dismissed him. They too seem to have caved to pressure from the saffron groups and taken a tolerant stance. One won't often be eligible for bail for at least three months after being arrested under the PD Act. However, it is known that bjp state president Bandi Sanjay is hiring supreme court attorneys and meeting with other legal professionals to present raja Singh's case in court in order to get his release on bail.

Raja Singh's PD Act arrest sparked protests from not only bjp members and his supporters but also from the VHP, Bajrang Dal, and other Hindu organisations, who have begun putting pressure on the party to free him. They are referring to raja Singh's detention as a Hindu attack. They enquire as to why Akbaruddin Owaisi, the AIMIM floor leader, was not the subject of a comparable case under the PD Act when he publicly threatened to kill Hindus if the police did not withdraw after 15 minutes.
