The punjab congress on tuesday protested against the AAP government's recent decision to dissolve all

panchayats in the state, calling it "dictatorship" and a "direct attack on the federal structure of the country". The

punjab government dissolved all gram panchayats, panchayat samitis and zilla parishads in an order on 10

August. elections will be held in november and December. During Tuesday's protest, congress leader Pratap

Singh Bajwa said sarpanches are elected representatives and the decision was a "disgusting" attempt by the AAP

government to take away their right to self-governance.

Wading also targeted cm Mann

and a violation of the Constitution". punjab congress chief amarinder singh Raja Wading criticized the

Bhagwant Mann government for the "dictatorial" decision and asked, "What if the punjab governor exercises his

constitutional powers and you dissolve the government six months before its term?" Will the Chief Minister

remain silent or will he cry for justice? Accusing Punjab's ruling party of trying to "intimidate" leaders and

members of panchayats across the state, Bajwa asserted that the congress party would not tolerate any such

"tyranny".

Questions raised on the transparency and fairness of the electoral process

In a letter to chief minister Bhagwant Mann, Bajwa said, "It is surprising that the dates for the panchayat

elections have been announced so early. panchayat elections will be held in two phases by december 2023.

Bajwa wrote, “While the importance of timely elections cannot be underestimated, it is equally important to

ensure that due process is followed and the sanctity of the electoral process is maintained. The haste with which

these dates have been announced so soon raises questions about the transparency and fairness of the electoral

process.
