In indian politics, full rights for half the population is still far away. Looking at the way political parties have
been stingy in giving tickets to half the population i.e. women in the assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, it
seems that the claims of women power are still limited to election slogans. In the elections being held for 230
assembly seats of the state, all the political parties have given only about 11 percent tickets to women. However,
with the introduction of the Women's Reservation Bill, 33 percent seats will be reserved for women in the 2029
Lok Sabha elections.
In fact, in the election campaign before the voting on 17th November, the issue of half the population and the
schemes related to it were the most talked about. It was believed that after the parliament passed the bill for 33
percent reservation for women, political parties would increase the participation of women among their
candidates in the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. The branding of BJP's Mukhyamantri Laadli Bahana
Yojana and Congress's Nari Samman Yojana shows how important women's votes are for both the parties in this
election. But women, who are important for votes, have been marginalized in both the parties in terms of getting
tickets.
Women's share increased by only one percent in five years
Let us tell you here that this time only 252 women are in the election field including all the political parties and
independents. In the 2018 elections, 235 women were given tickets, which was about 10 percent. In this context,
the participation of women in elections has increased by only one percent in five years.
