hyderabad: Protesting against the Chaitanya Bharati Institute of technology (CBIT) management’s decision to demand excess fee, parents on Friday met Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) officials and requested them to initiate action against the college. While the TAFRC had fixed a fee of Rs 1.13 lakh per annum for CBIT, for the block period 2016-2019, parents alleged that the college was demanding that parents pay close to Rs 2 lakh per year by October 15. “The college management has issued three circulars on different dates for second, third, and final year students.

They were asked to pay the fee before the due date to avoid paying a penalty of Rs 50 per day ,” said V Srinivas, general secretary, CBIT parents’ association. He said that instead of refunding the excess fee that had been collected in the past couple of years, the college was asking parents who were willing to pay only Rs 1, 13, 500 to sign an undertaking stating that they did not have money to pay the entire fee and would clear all the dues later. As per the circulars, while the last date to clear dues for fourth-year students was September 15, for third-year students the stipulated date to clear dues was September 25. Second-year students, who were issued the circular on September 19, were given time till October 5 to pay the fee for this academic year.

Parents said that the management should wait until the apex court delivers its judgement. “The court has already directed the management of Vasavi College of Engineering and Srinidhi Institute of Science and technology to collect the fee as per TAFRC guidelines. Based on that, we are quite sure that CBIT and Mahatma Gandhi Institute of technology will not be allowed to collect an excess fee. It would be wise if managements could wait until the court delivers its judgement before pressurizing parents to pay the excess fee,” said Nagati Narayana, president, Telangana Parents Association.

Rama Rao, consultant, TAFRC, confirmed they received a representation from parents and said they would ask CBIT management to adhere to TAFRC guidelines. “As the decision is pending in court, the management cannot demand an enhanced fee. If the managements insists, we asked parents to give an affidavit saying that they will abide by court’s order and pay the fee prescribed by TAFRC for now,” said Rama Rao, consultant, TAFRC.
