Significance, celebration and rituals of Dussehra

 Dussehra in north india is celebrated with grand fervour, fairs are organized which attracts huge number of people, play of Ram leela is  enacted in Ram Leela maidans.

    During dussehra the effigy of evil king Ravana is burned to mark the victory of Lord Ram over evil king Ravana. People throng the fairs organized in Ram Leela maidans. Ram leela play is enacted depicting how Lord Ram brought back his wife goddess sita from clutches of Ravana. The evil king kidnapped goddess sita and took her to Lanka.

  In north-east especially in Bengal, durga puja is performed for nine days, on 10th vijaya dashami day, the idols of goddess Durga is immersed in water.

     In southern India, Ayudha puja is performed, Maa Saraswati, Maa Lakshmi, and Maa parvathi is worshiped. dussehra of mysore is considered to be the grandest of all, on vijaya dashami, the palace of mysore is decorated. 

      In Gujarat traditional dance of Dandiya Raas is performed,  Garba nights are organized where people come in large numbers dressed in traditional attire. Overall dussehra is celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm across the whole country.
