Reportedly with governments across the world struggling to fight the coronavirus pandemic, a number of high profile public figures have stepped up to aid the struggle against the viral outbreak. india is no different with many sports and movie stars coming forward in support. On tuesday, it was the turn of star opener rohit sharma to join the cause as he donated a sum total of INR 80 lakh to help india get "back on feet".

 

Out of the INR 80 lakh, rohit has decided to donate INR 45 lakh to the PM-CARES Fund, INR 25 lakh to cm Relief Fund while INR 5 lakh each towards Feeding india and welfare of stray dogs. Among other indian sportspersons, former captain sourav ganguly and batting legend sachin tendulkar donated Rs 50 lakh each, while world badminton champion pv sindhu contributed Rs 10 lakh. Wrestler Bajrang Punia donated six months' salary towards the haryana CM's relief fund.Suresh raina and cricketer turned politician gautam Gambir also pledged Rs 52 and 50 lakh respectively.Runners dutee chand and Hima Das have contributed one month's salary towards the cause.
