Intel's new Foundry services company will have its initial customers in Qualcomm and Amazon. Snapdragon chipsets will be built on Intel's 20A process technology, which employs innovative RibbonFET transistor design and promises enhanced power management. The node is expected to be available in 2024. Although no particular chipsets will be manufactured for Amazon, the company's Web services division (AWS) will rely on Intel's new IFS packaging technologies.

Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of, Qualcomm has officially communicated this news.

Making chipsets and packaging solutions for third-party firms marks a significant shift in Intel's business strategy, reaffirming the company's goal of regaining leadership in the semiconductor market by 2025. The firm also revealed a roadmap for its CPUs, which includes a completely new naming scheme for its chipsets, which will debut later this year with the 12-generation Alder Lake chips. The industry norm for designating nanometer nodes will be replaced with numbers. Yes, Intel's next-generation 10nm in-house chipset will be known as Intel 7. It claims a performance boost of 10-15% and is now in production.

The next iteration, Intel 4, will be built on a 7nm node and is anticipated to be released in 2023. It will be based on EUV lithography and is expected to outperform its predecessor by 20%. The Intel 20A, dubbed the "breakthrough innovation" in Intel's pipeline and the platform on which Qualcomm's processors would be built, is due in the first half of 2024.
