There has been an increase in the number of incidents of mobile customers in india receiving calls and texts allegedly alerting them that their SIM card would be banned in a few hours due to a lack of KYC papers. Even the Cellular Operators Association of india (COAI) has made a forceful statement, warning customers that such calls are fraudulent and not official correspondence from any cell network operator, such as Airtel, reliance Jio, or Vi.

These scam people calling furthermore encourage unsuspecting customers to download and install third-party applications on their phones in order to upload identification documents like Aadhaar or PAN cards to finalise the KYC process, which is a total scam. One should never download and install such an application or share your ID documents like Pan, bank details or aadhar with unknown callers. Mobile service providers frequently advise that any requests to install third-party software on your smartphone be ignored. According to COAI, it may result in financial or data loss. The COAI has issued a warning about fraudulent SMS messages and phone calls from unknown numbers. Do not disclose any papers or personal information with these calls, and do not open any links received through SMS by unfamiliar senders. These phishing messages generally come from a cell number or a strange corporate messaging ID, not even from the authorized messaging channels, if you check attentively.
