Whatsapp has become a part of daily means of communication for many. They have been adding several features to it whenever it is possible for the betterment of the service. Now, whatsapp is exploring a new option to limit conversation backup size after handing out end-to-end encrypted chat backups to beta users last week. Along with this option, WABetaInfo claims that whatsapp may soon stop offering unlimited google Drive backups and instead provide a restricted subscription to back up your whatsapp data.

For the uninitiated, whatsapp struck a strategic partnership with google in 2018 to provide unlimited backups in Drive. Because of this offer, you can now save limitless whatsapp backups on google Drive without exceeding your storage limit. That may change soon, as whatsapp is working on new tools to assist users to restrict backup size behind the scenes.

According to WABetaInfo, the forthcoming backup size manager will let you select whether or not to backup photographs, audio, movies, documents, and other material. The functionality was discovered in whatsapp version 2.21.21.7 for Android, although it isn't available to the entire public, even for beta testers.

However, it appears that your whatsapp backups will not be counted against your Drive storage. For free conversation backups, whatsapp and google are expected to set a limit of 2000 MB per user. Backups that exceed this limit may be counted against your Drive quota.

The revelation isn't surprising, given how google stopped free limitless storage for google Photos earlier this year. Both firms, however, have yet to announce their intentions to phase off limitless storage. As a result, now is the best time to back up your massive whatsapp meme collection for free before google imposes a limit.
