The seaside resort of Chiplun in Ratnagiri, some 250 kilometres from Mumbai, seems to be one of the badly affected as the Konkan coastline of maharashtra faces catastrophic rain and flooding. A frightening video from Chiplun shows a group of people using what seems to be a rope to remove a lady from a waterlogged location. The person can be seen clutching to what seems to be a rope as she is dragged up in the 11-second footage. However, when she approaches the building's rooftop, the rescuers lose control and she drops into the floodwaters.


Flood floods have flooded more than half of Chiplun, which has a resident of around 70,000 people, according to news agency PTI. Over 5,000 passengers have been left stranded. maharashtra is experiencing the wettest July in 40 years. While the regions of Ratnagiri, Raigad, including Kolhapur, are inundated, Sangli and Amravati are experiencing flood-like conditions. In Raigad, 4 landslides were reported as a result of the constant rain.

In addition to the NDRF and provincial rescue troops, the navy has dispatched flood rescue groups and helicopters to help the maharashtra government. The torrential rains have hampered road and rail travel. The Met Department has declared red and orange advisories for various maharashtra areas that are expected to get severe rain in the coming days.
