Last week, social media users shared a video of a young woman with black paint on her face, having her head hacked off, wearing sandals, and being dragged down the street. The shocking footage was shot in delhi, the capital of India. Just as the country was celebrating Republic Day, a 20-year-old lady was raped, dragged through the streets, and humiliated. The truth was only revealed thanks to the woman's sister's confession.

The young woman is married and lives in Delhi's eastern outskirts. The child is two years and six months old. Relatives of the young man blamed the woman for a young man's suicide in the region where he lived last November. On january 26, the girl was carried to her hometown of Kasturba and abused as a punishment.

"The victim stated she was raped by three guys and that the women in the room supported it," said swati Maliwal, chairwoman of the delhi Women's Commission. No one objected to what happened to her sister unless those around her were having pleasure watching and videotaping the horror, according to the victim's sister. The fact that the majority of those who beat and tortured that young woman were women highlights how patriarchal thinking has pervaded our thoughts, regardless of gender.
