To satisfy the country's coal shortfall, NLC india has indicated that it is taking all possible steps to enhance production at the Talabira Coal Mine in odisha to 2 crore tonnes per annum. The country's economic position, which had deteriorated due to the development of the corona virus, is now gradually returning to normal, and electricity demand is rising in tandem.

As a result, coal mines across the country are experiencing a scarcity. To address these issues, NLC india has taken a number of innovative initiatives in its coal mining operations, paving the path for enhanced output. NLC Until 2016, the Union Ministry of Coal allotted odisha State Coal Mining Area-2 and 3 in the Talabra area, but india has only mined brown coal to create power. Following that, NLC began coal mining operations there and has been constantly producing coal since april 26, 2020.

The Union Ministry of Coal has provided authority to coal mines to sell the residual fuel after supplying it to the thermal power plants to whom it is to be delivered, as per the Amendment to the Mining and Minerals Development and Regulation Act, which was recently passed on 01.10.2021.
NLC india has applied to the Union Ministry of Coal for permission to sell the remaining coal after meeting the needs of its power units, based on this change.
