Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi party in Uttar Pradesh, was formally elected as the leader of the Opposition in the Legislative assembly today. When the legislature reconvenes, it appears that he will formally assume command. The bjp won 273 seats in the Uttar Pradesh elections, returning to power. The bjp won 255 seats on its own. This is fewer seats than were won in the previous election in 2017. Simultaneously, the Samajwadi party, which received the fewest votes in the last election, has gained 125 seats in this election with the coalition parties. The Samajwadi party won 111 seats on its own.

At a meeting of Samajwadi party MLAs, he was unanimously elected.

Akilesh said, "My best wishes to the new government on the foundation laid by the Samajwadi Party. The oath isn't merely for the establishment of a state. people should be served by the government as well. However, soon after the election, the central bjp government boosted petrol and diesel prices."
