Nobel prize in Chemistry awarded to 3 Scientists!!!

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced the names of three scientists who won the Nobel prize in Chemistry this year. This time three scientists will be jointly honoured with this award. This year's Nobel prize will be awarded to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K.Barry Sharpless for their remarkable work in the field of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry.

All three scientists have been awarded the Nobel prize for developing a method of simultaneous fragmentation of molecules into equal parts. Hans Ellegren, general secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, announced the winners on wednesday at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.

In which direction will this discovery work?

Click chemistry and bioorthogonal processes are used to make cancer drugs, perform dna mapping, and create materials tailored for a specific purpose. Bertozzi is affiliated with Stanford university in California.

Meldal is from the university of Copenhagen in denmark and Sharpless is associated with Scripps Research in California. Sharpless previously won the Nobel prize in 2001.

The week of Nobel prize announcements began on monday with a medical award honouring the scientist who uncovered the secrets of Neanderthal DNA. On Tuesday, three scientists jointly won the physics prize for showing tiny particles can maintain a relationship with each other even when separated.
