The problem of congestion in the parking area of chennai Alandur Metro Station is becoming a recurring story. Due to this, passengers are suffering a lot.

Metro rail Project was introduced to solve the traffic congestion in Chennai. At present, Metro trains are being operated on 2 routes namely airport – Wimco nagar and Parangimalai – chennai Central covering a distance of 54 km. There are a total of 41 metro stations on these routes.

In this, there is facility of parking cars at 27 metro stations. It is very convenient for regular metro commuters. Passengers who come from home in their own vehicle to the metro station, park it in the parking area there and from there take metro trains to different areas.

The number of people traveling by metro train is continuously increasing due to the ease and luxury of traveling without getting stuck in traffic jams. In this situation, there is a shortage of space in certain metro stations. Especially in the parking lot area of Alandur Metro station, the problem of crowding has been a recurring story for the past few months. Being a junction of 2 routes Vimkonagar-Airport and Central-Parangimalai, Alandur Metro station is always crowded. There is a large parking area behind Alandur Metro Station. It has been closed since last march 24.

Adjacent to the right side of the railway station is a two-wheeler stand which can accommodate around 700 vehicles. However, due to lack of space to park the vehicles beyond the specified time, the commuters are suffering a lot. Apart from this, around 500 vehicles are parked, they put a board saying 'no parking space here' and turn the coming vehicles back. Due to this, the metro train passengers are facing severe difficulties.

About this some passengers said: Alandur Ramkumar: Every day I park my two-wheeler at Alandur metro station parking area and return by metro train to Anna Road area. For the past few days, even regular commuters have been denied parking at the Alandur parking lot.

Even in an environment where there is space for 200 vehicles, they turn them away saying 'no parking space'. They block the parking area by placing 'No Parking' boards here and there. Therefore, parking area for two-wheelers should be regularized and parking of additional vehicles should be allowed.

Parking needs to be expanded and congestion problem resolved. It has been 3 months since the car parking area was closed on a temporary basis. It should also be opened and parking of two-wheelers allowed. This is what he said.

Passenger Gomati: Two-wheelers are parked randomly here and there in the parking area of Alandur Metro station complex. Employees do not see this. Difficulty parking and re-picking the vehicle in the parking area.

Also, there is no adequate electric lighting in the parking area. As a result, female commuters returning after work at night have to go with fear to pick up their vehicle. Therefore, adequate lighting facility should be provided. They said that vehicles parked by passengers should be properly stopped and properly monitored.
