The Israeli military said on monday that it had found weapons concealed by Hamas in the basement of a children's hospital in Gaza, where it also claimed hostages were being held. The Israeli military also verified the name of a soldier being held captive by Hamas on Tuesday, after the Palestinian group's armed wing released a video showing the young lady in captivity.

Meanwhile, as Israeli tanks moved on the gates of the besieged enclave's major hospital, US Vice President Joe Biden said hospitals in Gaza must be safeguarded and hoped for "less intrusive" action by Israel.

Israel Hamas war Day 39 Latest Updates:
1. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, an Israeli military spokesperson, said troops discovered a command center with an arsenal of weapons including grenades, suicide vests, and other explosives stored by Hamas militants in the basement of Rantissi Hospital, a pediatric hospital with a specialty in treating cancer patients. "We also discovered signs that Hamas was holding hostages here," Hagari said during a live briefing. "We are currently investigating this." But we also have intelligence to back it up."


2. Hagari displayed a video showing what seemed to be primitive living quarters, including a tiny kitchen, as well as a nearby underground shaft that he claimed went to the home of a senior Hamas naval officer. In addition, troops discovered a motorbike with gunshot marks that he claimed was used to transport hostages to Gaza following the surprise attack on 7 october by Hamas gunmen who stormed into southern israel, killing approximately 1,200 people and seizing approximately 240 captives, according to Israeli authorities.

3. In a statement, the israel army said, "Our hearts go out to the Marciano family, whose daughter, Noa, was brutally kidnapped by the Hamas terrorist organization," officially confirming a hostage's identity for the first time after Hamas gunmen stormed across the border from Gaza on october 7.

4. On monday night, Hamas' Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades released a video of the soldier reading a statement in Hebrew in which she identified herself by name and ID card number and stated that she had been arrested in Gaza for four days. "An IDF (Israel Defence Forces) representative came to the family's home and informed them of the video's publication," the army said in a statement.

5. Israeli tanks have positioned themselves outside Al Shifa Hospital, Gaza City's largest medical facility, which israel believes stands over tunnels containing a headquarters for Hamas gunmen who use patients as shields. Hamas denies the Israeli assertion.
