The aftermath of the violence that erupted in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, following the demolition of an illegal madrassa, is gradually subsiding after four days. The administration's stringent measures have contributed to a return to normalcy, with 30 arrests made in connection with the incident, and the recovery of illegal weapons and cartridges.
Abdul Malik, identified as the mastermind behind the violence, was apprehended in delhi and is being transported to Haldwani. chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami affirmed ongoing police actions against the rioters, emphasizing that no influential perpetrator would be spared, and they would be held accountable for the losses incurred. Essential services in the affected Banbhulpura area have been restored, and while the internet ban has been lifted, authorities warn against disrupting communal harmony on social media.
Despite the improving situation, the administration is taking precautions, requesting central forces from the Centre and deploying 1000 security personnel in Banbhulpura. The congress party leaders urged chief minister Dhami for an impartial investigation, and a delegation from Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expressed concern over police actions, alleging cruelty and harassment against residents.
