Paddy farmers throughout the former medak district are concerned as persistent rains saturate the paddy transported to procurement hubs. As procurement is being delayed by the government machinery for a variety of reasons, wet paddy has begun to grow.

The area has been experiencing constant rainfall for the past four days, leaving farmers concerned. The farmers had been waiting nearly a month for their products to be acquired at various locations.

Paddy at procurement sites in narsapur, Shivvampet, Chilipiched, Manoharabad, chinna Shankarampet, and numerous other mandals was destroyed by the unseasonal rainfall.

Out of the 393 procurement centers that have opened in the medak district alone, 321 are still open since procurement has not yet been finished. Officials from Sanagreddy and siddipet could not be reached for procurement figures. However, procurement is still ongoing in some locations.

Hanumantha reddy, a farmer from narsapur in medak district, said they had been waiting at procurement sites for many days because authorities were delayed due to a scarcity of 'hamalis', gunny bags, and vehicles, among other reasons.

Reddy claimed they were forced to stay at the procurement sites despite the southwest monsoon. Other farmers were busy preparing their land, and buying seeds, fertilizer, and other supplies for Vanakalam sowing operations. hari Krishna, district Manager (Civil Supplies) for medak, stated that they had purchased 2 lakh tonnes of paddy out of a projected 4.20 lakh tonnes.

He stated that they have deposited Rs.324 crore in farmers' accounts, with Rs.127 crore still outstanding. The procurement is likely to be finished soon, he said. EOM area residents are concerned about the continual rains that are soaking the paddy transported to procurement sites.
