Plans are in place to extract sand from the medigadda barrage, which could yield over Rs.800 crore for the congress government. The barrage is an essential component of the kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, which has been the centre of a significant political controversy in the State.
Even though the State administration raised a lot of fuss over the cost of fixing the medigadda barrage, it now seems fine to use the sand that has gathered there to make money. When the medigadda barrage started to show fractures in october of last year, the government decided to release all of the water while the repairs were being completed. After then, sand dunes built up around the barrage, which is currently beneficial to the State government.
