An email was sent to the bank OF INDIA' target='_blank' title='reserve bank of india-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>reserve bank of india threatening to use explosives to blow up the bank's mumbai headquarters. On december 12, a threat email including the words "will blow you up" was received to RBI governor Sanjay Malhotra's official email address in Russian.
 
After learning of the threat email, the mumbai police opened an investigation and filed a complaint against the sender under the appropriate Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections. A top mumbai police officer discussed the threatening email, saying, "The Reserve bank of India's official website got a threatening email. The Russian-language email threatened to blow up the bank. At the Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station, a case has been filed against an unidentified suspect. An inquiry into the situation is in progress.
 

Sources claim that authorities are tracking down the email sender's IP address and looking into whether a VPN was used to transmit the message.
 
Days after Sanjay Malhotra, the 26th governor of the Reserve bank, took over as governor after Shaktikanta Das resigned after six years, the threatening email was sent.
 
The Cabinet's Appointments Committee, led by prime minister Narendra Modi, chose Malhotra, an IAS officer from the rajasthan cadre.
 
A guy posing as the "CEO" of the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba also threatened the RBI customer service center in mumbai earlier this month.
 

Claiming that an electric car had broken down, the individual, posing as the "CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba," contacted the RBI and requested that officers shut the back route.
 
The mumbai police were notified right away, and they searched the area. But nothing shady was discovered.
