Karthik Subbaraj's highly awaited Suriya film Retro is scheduled to open in theaters across the globe on May 1.  Karthik Subbaraj is now promoting the film by doing interviews with well-known YouTube channels, while the film is nearing its conclusion.  Karthik Subbaraj recently disclosed in one of these interviews that the Retro script was originally written with a stronger focus on action for Superstar Rajinikanth.

But apparently that didn't occur.  After he told Suriya the same script, Suriya asked him if, considering the number of mass moments, he had told Rajinikanth the same script in a lighthearted way.  Karthik Subbaraj added that Suriya changed the script to be more of a love-action drama once he joined the production.  As of right now, this video has gone viral.

Karthik Subbaraj has officially stated that Suriya's Retro script was originally written for Rajinikanth, notwithstanding earlier rumors that it was penned for Thalapathy Vijay.  Karthik Subbaraj appears to have changed the script to better fit Suriya.  This has now led to a great deal of uncertainty among Suriya fans on whether these changes would negatively influence the film's core or whether it will be successful once it is released.  However, Retro has raised a lot of expectations among viewers, and it is unclear if they will be met and if it will be a financial success on May 1.
