A startling allegation that former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan was raped while incarcerated is making the rounds online as tensions between india and pakistan rise in the wake of the pahalgam terror attack, which has led New delhi to adopt a multifaceted strategy to address Pakistan's longstanding support for terrorism.

The origin?  A "medical report" that purports to be from the Pak Emirates Military Hospital (PEMH) describes gruesome injuries that appear to be the result of sexual assault.  However, as the controversy grew on the internet, a more thorough examination of the allegations not only turned up a tangle of contradictions that seriously called into question the veracity of the report, but it also showed how unconcerned the Pakistani establishment was about clearing up any misunderstandings surrounding their former prime minister and world cup-winning captain.

‘Medical Report’ spawns claims of Imran Khan’s rape

When the disputed paper initially surfaced on X, it set off a chain reaction of conjecture, anxiety, and political point-scoring.  The study states that Khan experienced bleeding injuries typical of forceful assault, decreased anal sphincter tone, and bruising and edema around the perineum.  With the frightening remark that his release was contingent upon approval from Pakistan's Chief of army Staff, it also mentioned that he was still awaiting tests for hepatitis, HIV, and other STIs.

The ramifications were terrible.  Red flags, however, began to appear almost quickly.

To begin with, the story was already making the rounds online on May 2, a full day before it was dated May 3, 2025.  That in and of itself raises serious questions.  Furthermore, authorities verified that Imran Khan's medical examination was performed by physicians at the pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad rather than at PEMH.

Simply put, the paper is most likely a fake.

No official clarification from the pakistan army or government
Not a single official outlet has confirmed or refuted the claims despite the social media commotion.  There has been no press release or reliable reporting to support or refute the allegations of sexual assault, and Khan's legal team has not publicly commented on the matter.  Pakistani media outlets, however, have focused on the disparities and emphasized that the story seems to be a part of a coordinated effort to spread false information.

Watchful social media users have also stepped in, denouncing the paper as fake and cautioning against spreading such divisive statements in the absence of proof.  Despite this, the narrative is spreading across YouTube comment sections, whatsapp groups, and timelines.

However, Imran Khan's team and the Pakistani establishment's reticence indicate that there is more to it than meets the eye.
