Pratap Sarnaik, the transport minister for maharashtra, declared on monday that new cars will not be registered unless the purchaser can show that they have been assigned a parking place by the appropriate civic organization. The decision was made to address the mumbai Metropolitan Region's (MMR) escalating parking problem and traffic congestion.

Following a high-level discussion on the state's new parking regulation, the announcement was made.

"We're trying to build parking spots. Developers are required to supply parking with apartments, and development regulations should be adhered to. "If the buyer does not have a certificate of parking space allotment from the relevant civic body, we will not register new vehicles," Transport minister Sarnaik stated.

The minister also disclosed that the Urban Development Department is attempting to obtain permits for the development of parking plazas beneath designated recreational spaces, acknowledging the severe parking deficit in the MMR.

Additionally, Sarnaik provided updates on the state's ambitious plans for a network of pod taxis.  "I was given an overview of the pod taxi idea.  I've been to Vadodara, which is going to have the first commercially viable suspended pod-car transportation system in the world," he remarked.

Sarnaik claims that to improve connectivity to metro networks, the maharashtra government is constructing comparable systems in Mira-Bhayandar and the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).
