Despite India's strong opposition following the pahalgam attack, the international Monetary Fund (IMF) has provided a loan of one billion dollars to Pakistan. Now the IMF has revealed the reason for this. On april 22, terrorists targeted tourists in the pahalgam area of Jammu and Kashmir. 22 people were killed in this attack by Pakistan-backed terrorists. In this situation, india insisted that international organizations should stop all types of financial assistance to Pakistan. india said that all the funds that can be provided to pakistan go to terrorist activities. india also insisted that the international Monetary Fund (IMF) should stop providing financial assistance to Pakistan. However, the IMF provided financial assistance to pakistan despite India's opposition. In a statement issued in this regard, Julie Kosak, the director of the international Monetary Fund's Communications Department, said that the IMF Board of Directors had approved the provision of financial assistance to pakistan in september 2024, and it was announced at that time that the first phase of reviews for this would be conducted in the first quarter of 2025.
Based on that announcement, IMF officials and Pakistani officials jointly held a review meeting on this financial assistance on march 25. He said that our officials submitted the information received in that review meeting to the IMF Board on May 9 and shared all the details at that time on how pakistan had used the financial assistance they had previously provided and whether there had been any changes in the country's economy as a result. He said that following the completion of the review, a further $1 billion in financial assistance was announced as promised to them in advance. He said that only after we were satisfied that pakistan had spent the funds we had provided properly had brought about reforms and achieved some economic improvements, we agreed to provide another amount to Pakistan.

The first tranche of the loan they provided went to the Central bank of pakistan and the country correctly followed our condition that the Central bank should not provide that money to the Pakistani government, Kozak said. The IMF had approved providing financial assistance of up to $7 billion to the Pakistani government and has so far provided $2.1 million in two installments. The IMF has explained that if we find out that the funds we are providing are being used for wrongdoing, we will immediately stop it.
