Thunderbolts*, the most recent release from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has already doubled The Marvels' box office in the US after three weeks in theaters.  Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, Lewis Pullman, Olga Kurylenko, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour are among its cast members.  With a cast of villains and antiheroes, the movie explores issues of self-worth, mental health, and discovering a higher purpose.

The Marvels also had three main characters: Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Teyonah Parris as monica Rambeau/Photon, and Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel.  At the same time, it served as a follow-up to Ms. Marvel, WandaVision, and Captain Marvel.  Despite receiving new Rotten Tomatoes reviewer scores, The Marvels and Thunderbolts* have had less comparable commercial outcomes.

As of May 25, 2025, the domestic gross for Thunderbolts* is $173.8 million, compared to $84.5 million for The Marvels' entire run, according to box office Mojo.  On the other hand, Thunderbolts* has made $355.5 million worldwide, while The Marvels made $206.1 million.  It's interesting to note that international box office receipts accounted for 51.1% of Thunderbolts*' total revenue but 59% of The Marvels'.

What Thunderbolts* Doubling The Marvels' box office Means
While Not A Billion Dollar Hit, Thunderbolts* Is Not A Flop

Although Thunderbolts* isn't expected to perform as well as Avengers: Endgame or even Deadpool & Wolverine from the previous year, it surpasses the expectations of the MCU's lowest-grossing films.  In addition to surpassing The Marvels both domestically and internationally, the movie is presently earning more than Captain America: Brave New World, which took $168 million in its third week of release.  The movie has a chance of breaking even, but it is unlikely to be a huge commercial success.
