Telugu movies has traditionally flourished during Sankranthi, and 2026 looks to be no exception.  The race for the festival is already intensifying with over half a year to go.  Interestingly, all four of the main films—three telugu releases in a row and one dubbed—have secured their slots for the Sankranthi window and are aimed at families.

The telugu adaptation of Thalapathy Vijay's final movie before entering politics, Jana Nayagan, is in the lead.  The First Roar, a teaser for the H. Vinoth-directed and KVN Productions-produced movie, was released today on Vijay's birthday, confirming its january 9th release date.  The makers keep silent regarding the plot, despite speculations that it was partially based by Bhagavanth Kesari.

Next up is Mega157, which was directed by Anil Ravipudi, who has a track record of success with Sankranthi films, and stars megastar Chiranjeevi.  Although the precise date is yet unknown, the producers have confirmed the festival release.  Large crowds are anticipated for this mass entertainer, which has Nayanthara as the female lead and venkatesh in a potential cameo.

Then, on january 14th, Anaganaga Oka Raju will be released in theaters.  Naveen Polishetty and Meenakshi Chaudhary appear in this entertaining rural comedy that takes place in the Godavari region.  The movie promises feel-good vibes and clean humor, which are perfect for the holiday atmosphere.

RT76, ravi Teja's latest collaboration with director Kishore Tirumala, completes the roster.  It was officially released in june and is reportedly a family drama with a lot of ravi Teja's usual vigor.  The crew is working on a quick track for Sankranthi, while Bheems Ceciroleo is composing the music.

With the same target group in mind, Sankranthi 2026 is poised to be one of the most thrilling box office contests in recent memory.
