Since M3GAN 2.0 lacks any sort of end-credits scenario, feel free to take a break from those dancing performances. It's true that Blumhouse's eagerly awaited sequel to 2022's unexpected breakthrough horror-comedy blockbuster builds upon M3GAN's (Jenna Davis and Amie Donald) in a number of novel and surprising ways. Allison Williams, who produced M3GAN 2.0 and is a series star, has expressed her desire for an M3GAN trilogy. But fans hoping for a moment in the middle or after the credits to hint to the franchise's possible future might be as let down as Gemma (Allison Williams) and Cady (Violet McGraw) were when they discovered their AI friend was a violent sociopath.

The initial M3GAN film, which was made on a rumored $12 million budget, adhered to Blumhouse's mission statement of making low-budget, high-concept horror films, and it was a clear success.  M3GAN broke box office predictions, largely because it became a viral, meme-worthy sensation.  In addition to more than doubling its stated budget in just its first weekend, it ended up earning 15 times its budget globally, for a staggering total of $180 million. 

It's unclear how well M3GAN 2.0 will do at the box office, but the much anticipated follow-up will face some fierce competition.  For starters, Brad Pitt's most recent ambitious star vehicle, F1: The Movie, which is already receiving accolades as a technical marvel and a must-see cinematic experience, and Joseph Kosinski's Top Gun: Maverick sequel are opening right next to M3GAN 2.0.  Furthermore, M3GAN 2.0 will be released on the second weekend of 28 Years Later, another eagerly anticipated horror sequel that has already recovered its stated production budget. 

Oddly enough, the week following the release of M3GAN 2.0, another Universal property, Jurassic World Rebirth, completes the trinity of problems.  This does not even include the theater space that will be used later in July for Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, two films that are being hailed as the summer's must-see events.
