As he prepares to play the Man of Steel in the DC Universe, David Corenswet shares his thoughts on Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill's Superman. As part of the DCU timeline, the Man of Tomorrow will finally star in his own film this summer, making 2025 one of the most significant years in Superman's media history.

Cavill's portrayal in the DCEU film timeline, which started with Snyder's Man of Steel in 2013, was the final cinematic version of Superman the world saw.  One of the most controversial topics surrounding the DC icon is Cavill's portrayal of Superman, which has been called one of the darkest.

In a recent interview with GQ, Corenswet addressed his remarks from an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly in november 2019, in which he discussed the gritty version of himself that Cavill played in Snyder's franchise.  Corenswet clarified his meaning with GQ, sharing the following details about Cavill and Snyder's Superman:

He said, "That's the least intriguing thing I could have said, in my opinion.  For the simple reason that you want brilliant performers, writers, and artists to explore all of the potential of a great character like Superman.  Doing the same thing over and over again is the only way things get monotonous.  Therefore, Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill explored a side of Superman that hadn't been explored on the big screen, much like chris Nolan took Batman and gave him a darker, more grounded look."

He added, "All I was trying to say was that they're doing it really well.  I'd love to see the next one go the opposite way and let's see what happens after they're done.  Similarly, following the Batman movies directed by christopher nolan and starring Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson, many people ask themselves, "Where is our campy, funny, fantastical Batman?" "
