"Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We're choosing peace, growth, and healing - for ourselves and each other. I'm grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time," Saina wrote on her instagram story.
In 2018, saina nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap tied the knot.
Both Parupalli and Saina received their training in Hyderabad's pullela gopichand Academy. Parupalli created a reputation for himself at the 2014 Commonwealth Games with a gold medal, but Saina made headlines with her outstanding performances and bronze at the Olympics.
After Karnam Malleshwari, she became the second indian woman to win an Olympic medal.
Saina became the first indian woman to rank #1 in the world in women's singles in 2015.
Regarding the split, Parupalli has not made any announcements.
Saina disclosed in 2024 that she suffers from arthritis and will have to make a decision regarding her badminton career.
"The knee isn't doing well. I suffer from arthritis. My cartilage has deteriorated. Nehwal stated on the 'House of Glory' podcast, which was hosted by shooting sensation Gagan Narang, who served as India's chef-de-mission during the most recent olympics in Paris, that it is really challenging to push for eight to nine hours.
"How can you compete against the world's top players in those conditions? I suppose I'll have to come to terms with it somewhere. Because playing with the best players and getting the necessary results requires more than two hours of training," she continued.
