The trinamool congress (TMC) was in power when these industries moved from West Bengal. While some corporations are leaving West bengal, the state is also seeing some announcements of small investments. This is a severe and worrying scenario for the nation's fourth most populous state.
Despite the startling nature of these figures, West bengal has a long history of industrial migration. This has been the case for a number of years, with major corporations moving their headquarters and major brands closing their operations. This is partly due to the mamata banerjee government's anti-industry stance, which is exacerbated by the state's weak law and order situation.
Before mamata banerjee took office, the communists wrote the script for the downfall of Kolkata, which was once regarded as one of Asia's largest industrial powerhouses. However, mamata banerjee added the finishing touches to this storyline, and rather than adding more industries, she laid the final nail in their coffin.
How many companies bid adieu to West Bengal
Samik Bhattacharya, the president of the bjp in West bengal, posed a question regarding the state during the Rajya Sabha's monsoon session. The Central Government's Ministry of corporate Affairs responded by stating that 6688 enterprises have departed West bengal between 2011–12 and 2024–25.
A third of these, or over 2200 enterprises, have departed the state since 2019, the ministry responded. Since the TMC took office in 2011, this pattern has persisted. The ministry claims that 110 of the 6688 businesses that departed West bengal were listed on the stock exchange.
Ministry data shows that the highest number of companies, around 1027, left West bengal during 2017-18. During 2015-16 and 2016-17, 869 and 918 companies, respectively, withdrew from West Bengal
Where did these companies go?
The corporate Ministry's response indicates that businesses are moving to other states in West Bengal. They are moving to states with easy-to-understand industry-related laws that support them. The greatest number of businesses that left West bengal between 2011 and 25 relocated to Maharashtra.
These industries also identify delhi and Uttar Pradesh as their preferred destinations. According to the corporate Ministry's response, between 2011 and 25, almost 1300 West bengal enterprises moved to Maharashtra. delhi, however, has been selected by 1297. In addition, 879 businesses have relocated to Uttar Pradesh from West Bengal.
West bengal has lost more than a thousand businesses to Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. All of this, though, appears to have no bearing on the Trinamool government. It appears determined to further drive industries out of the state rather than attract them in.
