Hindi Diwas 2025: cm Mamata Banerjee Extends Wishes, Highlights Government’s language Initiatives


On the occasion of hindi Diwas 2025, West bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee extended her heartfelt greetings to Hindi-speaking citizens and emphasized her government’s commitment to promoting linguistic diversity, especially the hindi language.

“Today is hindi Diwas. My heartfelt wishes to all Hindi-speaking brothers and sisters. We respect and revere all languages.”


She reiterated the state’s commitment to promoting linguistic inclusivity.


Recognition of hindi and Other Languages

Since 2011, the West bengal government has taken key steps to support the Hindi-speaking population.


Hindi given official status in areas where more than 10% of the population speaks Hindi.


Other recognized languages include Santhali, Kurukh, Kudmali, Nepali, Urdu, Rajbanshi, Kamtapuri, Oriya, Punjabi, Telugu, and efforts are being made for Sadri as well.


Formation of Hindi Academy


A hindi Academy has been set up for the development and promotion of the language.


The hindi University was established in Howrah.


Educational Reforms


Hindi medium degree colleges opened in Banarhat and Naxalbari.


Hindi postgraduate courses started in various colleges.


Higher Secondary exams now offer question papers in Hindi.


Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya allows students to appear for secondary exams in Hindi.


Support for the Unorganized Sector


Free social security schemes launched for Hindi-speaking workers in the unorganized sector.


Cultural Acknowledgment


In respect of the Hindi-speaking community, the government declared a two-day holiday for Chhath Puja.


Infrastructure improvements made around Gangasagar Mela.


Significance of hindi Diwas


Celebrated on 14 september every year, marking the adoption of hindi as one of India’s official languages in 1949.
