Gaza Crisis Aftermath: Two Years of war and Devastation.
Drone Footage Reveals Widespread Destruction
New drone footage taken over Gaza City, showing the aftermath of two years of war between israel and Hamas, highlights the massive destruction. Most buildings are reduced to rubble, with only a few structures left standing. In the Tal al-Hawa area, entire blocks have been flattened, and the streets are covered in dust and debris.
Ceasefire and Return of Palestinian Civilians
On the second day of the ceasefire, thousands of Palestinian residents are seen returning to their homes, or what remains of them. Shocked by the devastation, many expressed disbelief over the scale of the destruction. Farah Saleh, a local resident, remarked, “We didn’t expect this kind of devastation.” Others, like Sharin Aboul Yakhni, are concerned about the coming winter, with no homes or shelter left for families.
Extent of Damage: UN and UNEP Reports
According to the United Nations, 83% of Gaza City’s structures have been destroyed or severely damaged by the end of September. By July, 78% of structures across Gaza had been impacted. The UN Satellite Center estimates that 61 million tons of debris, equivalent to 25 Eiffel Towers, will need to be cleared. Additionally, Gaza's green cover has been devastated, with 97% of trees, 95% of shrubs, and 82% of crops destroyed.
Rebuilding Gaza: A Long Road Ahead
The World bank estimates that more than $50 billion will be required to rebuild Gaza. The situation remains dire, with over two million Gazans in need of shelter and infrastructure. If the ceasefire holds, it will take years to restore what was lost during the conflict.
US Troops in israel to Support Ceasefire
As tensions remain high, US troops have arrived in israel to help ensure the ceasefire holds and maintain peace efforts.
