Mamata Banerjee, breaking her silence on october 12, condemned the incident, stating that her government has zero tolerance for such crimes. She confirmed the arrest of three accused and assured the public that police are on the lookout for others.


She also stressed that private colleges should be responsible for ensuring security both inside and around their campuses but later clarified that her words had been misinterpreted by the media.
