IMAX Just Torched Disney’s “Infinity Vision” – The Fake Premium Format That’s Nothing But a Sticker

Brother, the hollywood screen war just got ugly.

Dune: Part Three already claimed the throne. Warner Bros. is locked in a full three-week exclusive IMAX window starting december 18, 2026. That means Disney’s massive Avengers: Doomsday — same release date — is completely shut out of the limited number of real IMAX screens that actually move the box office needle.

Instead of shifting the date like a normal studio, Disney pulled a classic corporate move at CinemaCon 2026: they invented “Infinity Vision.”

Sounds revolutionary, right? Wrong.

It’s not new hardware. It’s not new cameras. It’s not even a new format. It’s literally a certification sticker Disney slaps on existing Premium Large Format auditoriums that already meet basic specs — screen wider than 50 feet, laser projection, Dolby Atmos. That’s it.

IMAX CFO natasha Fernandes didn’t hold back. She called it exactly what it is: “a pure marketing play” designed to paper over Disney’s lack of real IMAX access.

Real talk: IMAX uses proprietary cameras and shoots in massive expanded aspect ratios (up to 1.43:1). Directors like christopher nolan and Denis Villeneuve actually design entire sequences around that tech — footage that cannot be replicated anywhere else.

Infinity Vision? Standard 2.39:1 widescreen. zero creative edge. zero technical exclusivity. You’re just paying premium ticket prices for the exact same experience you’d get in a normal high-end theatre… plus a shiny Disney certificate.

No new screens. No new projection system. No new cameras. Just branding.

Disney turned a scheduling loss into a fake “premium” product and expects fans to pay extra for it. IMAX just exposed the scam live on stage. hollywood marketing at its greediest. Wake up before you fall for the next fake format.
