The internet often claims to believe in equality, fairness, and accountability. But every now and then, a controversy emerges that leaves people wondering whether those principles are being applied consistently.

Take the cases of Himanshu Jangra and sejal Pawar.

Himanshu appeared on comedian Pranit More's show and made a controversial "370 biryani vasool" remark. The backlash was immediate and relentless. social media erupted. He was heavily criticized, mocked across platforms, publicly apologized, and eventually lost his job. Whether one believes the criticism was justified or excessive is a separate debate altogether.

What has caught many people's attention, however, is the stark contrast in how another controversy was received.

sejal Pawar, a doctor who appeared on the same show, faced scrutiny after comments involving dead bodies in a medical context. Critics highlighted remarks about joking with friends regarding male corpses and physical attributes. Yet the aftermath appeared dramatically different. Instead of a career-ending storm, she reportedly gained significant social media traction, adding lakhs of followers while continuing to receive support from many online communities.

That contrast has fueled a larger conversation.

Why do similar controversies often produce vastly different consequences? Why does one individual face professional fallout while another experiences increased popularity? Is the difference based on context, intent, audience perception, social media dynamics, or something else entirely?

The issue isn't necessarily about comparing the two statements and declaring them equally offensive. The bigger question is whether public standards are being applied consistently.

If accountability matters, it should matter regardless of gender. If certain remarks deserve criticism, the same principles should apply to everyone. And if context is important in evaluating one person's words, it should be equally important in evaluating another's.

Ultimately, this debate goes beyond two individuals. It's about whether society's outrage is guided by principles—or by preferences. Until people are willing to apply the same standards across the board, accusations of double standards will continue to surface every time a new controversy emerges.
