Competition Commission of india (CCI), antitrust regulator of india, has accused US e-commerce giant amazon making false submissions and of concealing facts when it sought the CCI approval for a 2019 investment in a Future Group unit. The accusations were made in a letter dated june 4, written by CCI to the e-commerce giant.

In the letter which also serves as a 'show cause notice', the CCI said the e-commerce giant has not revealed certain facts of the transaction and has hidden its strategic interest in Future Retail during it applied for an approval in 2019.

Trade experts are of the opinion that the letter will complicate Amazon's legal battle against the Future Group over the sale of retail assets to reliance Retail. amazon has approached supreme court in this matter.

In the letter, the CCI has also questioned amazon why the regulator should not penalise and take an action for submitting false information. amazon officials are yet to respond on CCI's letter. They just acknowledged of receiving the letter and said amazon is committed to comply with the indian laws and will fully cooperate with the CCI.

Representatives for Future Group are yet to respond.
