Hathras Gangrape: Why it was not proved?
On september 14, 2020, the gangrape and violent vandalism of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Boolgarhi village of hathras district of Uttar Pradesh shook the entire nation. It became a political issue due to the police action against the accused. Later the death of the girl made it a bigger case, after which the government had to hand over its investigation to the CBI. The CBI, while investigating at a rapid pace, in just 3 months, on december 29, 2020, also filed a 2,000-page charge sheet in the court and presented statements from 104 witnesses. Despite this, on Thursday, march 2, when the special court gave its verdict in this case, the three accused Lavkush, ramu and ravi were acquitted. The allegation of gang rape with the girl could not be proved in court. The court only found sandeep Singh, the main accused in the case, guilty. The court sentenced sandeep for culpable homicide not amounting to murder under sections 3/110 and 304 of the IPC and life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 under the SC/ST Act. Since then, many questions are being raised on social media regarding the decision of the court.
