According to the CPM's state office, the loan fraud in the CPM-controlled Karuvannur cooperative bank in Iranjalakuda, thrissur district was a severe failure of the district leadership. It has been determined that corrective actions would be taken at the party and government levels to remedy such breaches.

The party has directed the Cooperative Department to exercise vigilance and prevent such frauds from occurring in the future. The ED had opened an investigation in connection with the fraud and had obtained preliminary information from the cops. According to the police investigation, a scam worth more than Rs 300 crore took occurred.

On the basis of the police report, the case was opened. In a few days, a formal order regarding the investigation should be issued. The bjp intends to petition the court for a cbi investigation into the fraud. According to sources, those on the crime branch's list of suspects have a tight relationship with CPM officials.

TR sunil Kumar, the main suspect and the bank's former secretary, and M K Biju, the bank's former manager, are both CPM local committee ex-office bearers and present party members. Despite their role in the lending scheme, the party has failed to take action against them. The claim that they are connected to key party leaders has gained traction.

Workers from several political parties have begun separate agitations in front of the bank in the meanwhile.
