Babu Naik, a Nat community leader from Motipura, said, “The project has reduced the number of drunkenness and riots by 90 per cent. Prohibition of Liquor Consumption is in force in mahatma Gandhi's home state of Gujarat. Yet the people of that state did not give up the habit of drinking alcohol.

They just drink alcohol like counterfeit liquor. Among drinkers, the death toll from alcoholism is on the rise. In many towns between 100 and 150 women per town have lost their husbands to alcohol and become widows.

One such town is Motipura. There is a punitive action for drunkards. That is, if anyone is found to be intoxicated, they will be imprisoned overnight like animals in an iron cage created for this purpose.

They will be released from jail only if they pay a fine of Rs 1,200. The fine was later increased to Rs 2,500.

Introduced by the ‘Nat’ community, the project has been successfully implemented in the town. In view of this, 23 more villages in Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Amreli and kutch districts have been brought under this cage scheme for drinkers.

What do you say about these fines?

Social charities do this with money. The temple hosts festivals. Commenting on the project, Babu Naik, a community leader from Motipura, said, “The project has reduced the number of drunken riots and domestic violence by 90 per cent. We will not hand over drunkards to the police. Ours is a social activity. ”
