War crime: Russian soldier to life in prison...


A Ukrainian court has sentenced a 21-year-old Russian soldier to life imprisonment for killing a citizen of the country. Russian soldier Sergeant Vadim Shishimarin was convicted of shooting a Ukrainian civilian contracted. In the early days of the Russo-Ukraine war, a 21-year-old Ukrainian civilian was shot dead in a village in the north-eastern Sumy region.


First case sentenced for war crime

The sentence was handed down in the first war crimes trial since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Russian soldier has also admitted his crime. The soldier himself has given a statement that he shot and killed the civilian as he was ordered to do so by his superiors. The convicted soldier said that an officer had ordered to shoot him. 


There are many allegations against Russian soldiers

This is the first case sentenced for war crimes. A 62-year-old man had died in this incident. The soldier had fired several bullets in the head of the elderly man, due to which the person died there. Sentencing the case, Judge Serhi Agafonov said a soldier had executed a 'criminal order'.
