
The cyber cell of delhi police has exposed a gang that used to cheat people in the name of delhi Jal Board. delhi police has arrested 3 cyber criminals in this case. All these accused used to cheat people in delhi by installing APK files through fake calls and messages. According to delhi police, the accused have been identified as Ramesh Kumar Mandal, ravi Mandal and Mahendra Kumar.
delhi police has recovered 13 smartphones, a tablet and SIM cards used in cheating from them. APK files, Excel sheets and customer contact information along with banking data and other items have also been found in the recovered device.
Did they cheat by threatening to cut the water connection?
According to delhi police, the accused used to send messages to all the customers of the national capital by claiming themselves to be employees of delhi Jal Board that their water connection will be cut due to non-updating of readings. The message sent to people had a mobile number on which the accused would get an app installed. On the pretext of a small payment of Rs 12 through the app, the accused would get people to fill in their internet banking details and then a large amount would be withdrawn from their account.
rk Puram resident cheated of Rs 38,000
According to delhi police, a similar fraud was committed by the accused with Laxman Agarwal, a resident of rk Puram, delhi, on May 12. After a message, the accused called him and asked him to install the app and pay Rs 12. When he did so, but after a short while, about Rs 38,000 was withdrawn from his account without his permission. After which an FIR was registered in the case and delhi police started investigating.
