Kochi: On Tuesday, Kalamassery police detained 19 people, all of whom were born in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, in connection with the seizure of 18 weapons from a private security firm. While 18 of the defendants worked as security guards at the company, one of the defendants hired another 18 to work there. They were detained on suspicion of illegally possessing firearms.
After discovering that the arms did not have valid licences and were not regularised with the local collectorate, the police confiscated 18 firearms from the agency's office in Koonamthai and the leased residence used by the accused people. The police confiscated both double-barrelled and single-barrelled weapons, as well as pellets that were used in them. A lawsuit was filed under the Arms Act.
The weapons were registered in the Rajouri district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, according to the supporting paperwork, according to Kalamassery police. The authorities are attempting to determine if the Rajouri licences are fake.
The agency was inspected by the police after Karamana police in thiruvananthapuram made a similar seizure and detained five J&K residents last week after discovering anomalies in their licences.
Meanwhile, it is speculated that the National agencies are also collected the case details and are investigating.
